Our History

Iron Trellis didn't happen overnight. It happened over generations.

The brick home at the heart of this property was built in 1952 by Scott's grandfather — a man who also ran the hardware store on Yelm Avenue that became True Value Hardware, owned and operated by the Demich family for 72 years. Scott eventually took over that store, carrying on a family legacy that had shaped this community for decades. When the economic decline of 2007–2009 forced the doors to close, it marked the end of one chapter and quietly opened another.

Scott moved into the mortgage industry. Carla began renovating the guest house on the back of the property — the same space that would eventually earn Superhost status on Airbnb and become the bridal suite couples stay in today. That first small step was intentional. The long game had already begun.

We gave ourselves ten years.

At the time, we had no parking, no privacy trees, and no access to the hay field next door where horses used to graze. We knew what we wanted to build — we just didn't have all the pieces yet. In our third year, we approached the neighboring property owners and asked if purchasing might one day be possible. By what we can only describe as pure miracle, it was. We acquired the land, broke ground on the garden, and began planting the perimeter trees that would eventually frame everything you see here.

We called it Farm to Fancy. We have since renamed it Iron Trellis — a name that better reflects the refined, European-inspired garden estate this land has grown into. The head company remains Farm to Fancy LLC, but the vision has always been the same: to share something we love deeply with couples who will appreciate it the same way.

This venue was built slowly, deliberately, and with genuine care for what it could become. We think that shows — and we hope you feel it the moment you arrive.
